Keeping our seas full of life by up-cycling local seaweeds and seafood waste streams into regenerative aquafeeds.
What we do-
We are a biotechnology company producing functional, regenerative, aquafeeds and ingredients by up-cycling and up-valuing locally available seaweeds and seafood waste streams.
Where we work-
Indonesia is the second largest aquaculture producer in the world and the biggest seafood exporter with aquaculture growing at over 10% p.a.
What the market needs-
The industry is heavily reliant on imported Soybean Meal (SBM) and Fish Meal (FM) feed ingredients.
Indonesia is the second largest importer globally of SBM with almost all coming from Amazonia countries while FM is imported from Peru's anchoveta reduction fishery.
What problems we address-
These ingredients come with a very high associated carbon footprint of 6.9 tons of CO2/ ton of SBM and contribute to making shrimp's carbon footprint higher than grain fed beef or lamb.
Our solution-
We produce high-quality, sustainable aquafeeds made from local, non-human food ingredients as an alternative to expensive imports with a high environmental footprint.
Up-cycled seafood "waste"-
Seafood processing generates up to 70% of “waste” but only 30% is recovered. We are recovering more of this valuable bi-product sourced from well-managed fisheries (FIPs, MSC) and farms (BAP, ASC).
Our unique at-processor fermentation process is simple to use and yields an easy-to-transport, shelf-stable feedstock ingredient for our aquafeeds.
Up-valued seaweeds-
Indonesia is the second largest seaweed producer and its cultivation provides ecosystem services and livelihoods for over one million coastal peoples.
Living Sea’s unique bio-refinement method utilizes indigenous macroalgae (seaweeds) as a SBM replacement and feedstock ingredient for our aquafeeds.
Productivity improvement-
Our functional aquafeeds and ingredients for marine fish and shrimp improve animal health, reduce the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and improve farm profitability.
For better coastal communities & ecosystems-
Our business is reducing waste from the seafood supply chain, recovering aquaculture nutrients, and preventing ocean pollution.
